Who Is “The Walking Traveler?”

Who Is “The Walking Traveler?”

“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” — Lao Tzu

Hello and Welcome!  My name is Tony Toto.

I’m a freelance travel writer, blogger and photographer.  I grew up in Gurnee, IL, a far-north suburb of Chicago.  I still live in the Midwest.  Why?  I don’t know.  I loathe the cold arctic air and snow that comes with winter.  My mission is to relocate to a warmer climate, but not before I travel my heart out.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI started blogging in 2008 while in real estate.  After the contrived crash that sent the industry into turmoil, I transitioned over to article writing highlighting business for the Milwaukee Business Insight Examiner.  As dull and boring as this was, I was determined to practice my creative outlet.

After several years of promoting businesses and scratching my head of the type of writing I really wanted to do, I went searching.  During my roller coaster ride on the internet, I came across travel writing.  A few weeks of further research led me to MatadorU’s online travel journalism school.  I studied the site, asked a few questions and enrolled.  Thanks to MatU, I’ve had a travel photo included in a published piece on Matador Network and wrote three dozen articles for a travel company.

Outside of writing and photography, I’m a Sudoku addict, music lover, Eddie Van Halen air guitar master and a lover of trying new foods both domestic and foreign.

Thank you for visiting my site.  I hope it is informative, fun and at times makes you laugh.

“All the pathos and irony of leaving one’s youth behind is thus implicit in every joyous moment of travel: one knows that the first joy can never be recovered, and the wise traveler learns not to repeat successes but tries new places all the time.” – Paul Fussell
